Meet Eva

Meet Eva! Eva has been diagnosed with Cri du chat syndrome or 5p- syndrome.

Cri du chat is a genetic disorder where part of the 5th chromosome is missing. This is a rare disorder only 1 in 20,000-50,000 newborns are born with it. It can also be known as cats cry syndrome because they’re known to have a cat like cry. This can cause delayed development, weak muscle tone, and smaller birth weight. The spectrum for this is so broad that anyone could be walking around and not know they have it unless you get tested. Eva was diagnosed when she was in the nicu the geneticist noticed her skin tags in her face, smaller jaw, and a drop on the side of her lip and wanted to get a blood test done on her. Because of the small jaw she aspirated and had troubles breathing so she was sent home on oxygen and a g-tube. Since then Eva has had two jaw surgery’s to help open up her airway along with many hospital tests and she has been fully off of oxygen since may. She is slower on the growth and development charts but is working all the time with her specialist.

Eva greatest strengths are definitely her ability to handy all the pain she has been through with her multiple surgeries and tests she has showed how strong she is! She also has showed that she doesn’t have low muscle tone in her legs they’re very strong! Her ability to play around and interact is also very good.

Eva loves to play and snuggle. She is a very loving little girl and could snuggle all day long! She is always kicking her legs and playing with whatever she can get her hands on. Her hands are something she is obsessed with she loves to chew on them! She loves watching Mickey and ms Rachel! Her favorite animal is definitely a unicorn and she loves to look at all bright colors.

The heart with arms resembles for the 5th chromosome that has a shorter part on it one arm is shorter for the missing part and the heart has the earth is the middle to show the love from the whole world it is the symbol for national 5p-. The blue blob Eva used her hands and her feet to crest this I think it looks like a heart and the blue is the color to celebrate 5p- syndrome and how loving they are. The cat one is made with her foot to stand for cats cry syndrome which is another name for cri du chat.
